@One of Takayama's few works for children, and his best-known one. The first volume of Sekai Rekishitan [Foreigner's Biography] series published by Hakubun-Kan. Takayama gathered many professionals for this series, and he, who majored in philosophy, wrote Shaka. He tried to write Shakamuni's true life story who lived in the Indian society. Takayama also included some unbelievable anecdotes which reflects Buddha's true thought. Shimoyama Kanzan drew the detailed illustrations for this book.
@Shaka was well received by both critics and by young readers. Two months later, a second edition was published, and has remained in print. It was read in high schools and public libraries.
